FAQ
Neurofeedback, also called neurotherapy is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity (EEG) in order to teach the brain self-regulation.
Biofeedback utilizes medical instruments to provide feedback on a conscious level. This allows an individual to gain control over their physiological activity, such as heart rate, breathing, etc., for the purpose of improved health and performance.
We are currently in network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Tri-care and VA benefits, Medicare, as well as some Medicaid plans. We will attempt to verify your coverage and provide accurate estimates for your services, but it is your responsibility to verify coverage with your insurance company prior to consenting to services.
Yes, regardless of any medication you are currently taking, neurofeedback will have the same effect on improving the functioning of your brain, often decreasing or eliminating the need for medication.
While our clinicians are licensed psychotherapists providing therapy to our clients, we are happy to collaborate with your other therapist as needed.
Both the Brain Map and Neurofeedback are completely passive and are used to measure the electrical activity in your brain. We then use this information in the real-time feedback used to coach your brain into more optimal functioning.
No, we cannot read your thoughts. We are only looking at electrical activity and how your brain is functioning.
Research has found that after 20 sessions of neurofeedback, the improvements made are shown to be long lasting. Some people achieve significant symptom reduction after 20 sessions, while others need more treatment (therapy and neurofeedback) to meet their goals.
If after discontinuing neurofeedback, you notice any regression,
we encourage people to come back in for a few “booster” sessions and this helps the brain get back on track and quickly improve the area of concern.
Weekly sessions are 50 minutes to an hour. The number of sessions needed is determined on an individual basis, based on the needs and goals of each person.
Most insurances do not require a referral we encourage you to know your plan’s benefits. If you are interested in getting started, you can call to schedule a free 30-minute consultation to learn more about the services we provide.
A person watches a movie that is being played through our neurofeedback software. Three to five sensors are placed on the scalp. The sensors measure electrical output of the brain and converts that to changes in the picture on the screen. When the brain is operating in a training, or optimal zone, the picture on the screen is big and clear. If the brain moves out of the training
zone, the picture shrinks and may get cloudy. The brain can “figure out” how to adjust, on a subconscious level, how to return to optimal functioning. Over time the brain can learn from this training and is able to maintain optimal functioning outside of the training session.
While we make every effort to provide each person with the best treatment, there is a risk that neurofeedback can cause a dysregulation at some point in a person’s treatment process. Through regular check-ins and good communication, our therapists can make adjustments to an individual’s feedback in order to correct any dysregulations that may occur.
Neurofeedback does not change the physical brain. Neurofeedback is teaching the brain to regulate itself through increasing blood flow and rewarding it for positive activity.
Every person, like every brain is unique. Therefore, each person’s treatment process and timeline for symptom reduction is different.
Yes, we provide therapy and neurofeedback to children as young as 2 years old.
Neurofeedback is improving the functioning of the brain and regulating the nervous system which can be very effective in helping children with the symptoms they may be struggling with.
While the brain map is very insightful into how a person relates to the world, we do not use it as a diagnostic tool. The brain map is used to create individualized goals and protocols for therapy and neurofeedback.

Because there is an intimate connection between the brain and mental health, we combine the two modalities of therapy to attain optimal mental health and well-being. Psychotherapy plays an important role in providing the support and guidance needed when adjusting to the positive changes neurofeedback produces.
